UPDATE: Fire sends an adult, two children to hospital

A townhouse fire in London's north-east end that sent three people to the hospital with critical injuries is under investigation.

Multiple emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Purser Street and Benjamin Drive on Saturday morning around 11 a.m.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and take three people from the home. Platoon Chief Colin Shewell later confirmed that an adult and two children were taken to a hospital.

Fire crews cleared the scene around 2:30 p.m., while the fire prevention officer and members of the London Police Service waited at the scene for an investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office.

London police said Saturday night that the investigation is underway by the Major Crime Branch and that it remains in its early stages.

Tweets sent from the London Fire Department praised the firefighters for their efforts during the blaze but also extended thoughts to the family and friends of those affected.
