COVID-19 detected at Lambeth elementary school

Another school within Middlesex County has been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Thames Valley District School Board announced Wednesday evening that a positive case of the virus has been detected at Lambeth Public School by the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU).

The health unit is currently investigating the case and is working to identify the individual’s close contacts. The school board has not stated if it was a student or staff member who has tested positive for privacy reasons.

"Thames Valley wishes to assure the community that all staff, parents and guardians of the Lambeth Public School community were immediately notified of this case," the school board said in a news release, adding that it will only contact students and staff who been identified as a close contact. “If you are not contacted by the health unit, your child is not considered to be at risk.”

All close contacts are also being advised to stay home from school and quarantine for 14 days.

The school will remain open and all school buses will continue to operate.

The health unit previously reported a positive case of the virus at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in London late last week. A positive case was also announced early last week at Northdale Central Public School Dorchester and at Mary Wright Public School in Strathroy. As well, a second individual tested positive for the virus at Sir Arthur Currie Public School on October 12, leading to a declaration of an outbreak at the school.

All confirmed active COVID-19 cases at Thames Valley schools are being tracked on the board’s website.
