The Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a coronavirus outbreak at an on-campus residence at Western University.
Both Western University, and the health unit have confirmed that four individuals living in London Hall located off of Western Road have tested positive for COVID-19. Those who tested positive have been contacted by health officials and are being advised to self-isolate.
The MLHU is following up with anyone who may have been in close contact with those who've tested positive to ensure they are tested and quarantined pending the results.
In a written statement, Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the MLHU said it's imperative to declare an outbreak to help stop the virus from spreading any further within the university community. "This outbreak highlights the need to limit close contact to only those within your dorm room, maintain two metres physical distance, wear a mask and stay home or in your suite if you feel unwell." Dr. Summers added.
Out of precaution, Western has moved some close contacts to a quarantine location and is notifying students living in London Hall.
Those who may need to seek testing are advised to visit one of the city's assessment centres. The university also has a testing centre available 0n campus at the student recreation centre for students, faculty, and staff.
