UPDATE: Shooting victim dies in hospital

A 27-year-old London man is dead and police are searching for a suspect following a shooting in the city's east-end Wednesday night.

London police were called about the shooting in the area of Ashland Avenue and Dundas Street just before 9 p.m. Officers arrived to find a man, later identified as Scotty William Pate, 27, of London, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is in its early stages,” police said. “The shooting does not appear to have been a random incident.”

A section of Ashland was cordoned off with yellow tape with roughly six police cruisers still on the scene Thursday morning. Forensic investigators were seen taking photos, while officers canvassed neighbours. Four traffic cones were placed around an area near the curb of the street where a small pool of blood was visible.

The investigation is in the hands of the London Police Major Crimes Unit. On Friday a post-mortem examination was performed, which determined that the manner of death was a homicide.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
