Middlesex County hospital receive 'critical' funding

Two of Middlesex County's hospitals are set to benefit from the province's Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services will receive $1,068,632 and $1,575,644 respectively for upgrades, repairs and maintenance in 2020 and 2021.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton announced the funding on Monday.

“Our frontline workers have been superheroes during this pandemic,” said MPP Monte McNaughton in a news release. “I am proud that our government is continuing to invest in critical infrastructure to support the men and women who save lives every day. We are all grateful for their service.”

The money will go towards modernization of the elevators at Strathroy Middlesex General, as well as asphalting the parking lot, air quality improvements, and replacement of a section of the roof at Four Counties.

“Maintaining hospital infrastructure is another example of how our government is ensuring that Ontarians have access to health care services they can depend on," said Christine Elliott, deputy premier and minister of health. Our ongoing investments to support essential projects like repairing roofs and windows and adding more isolation spaces can make a big difference to a patient's experience.”

The Ontario government plans to invest a total of $175 million across the province's 129 hospitals through its renewal fund.
