Teen charged with impaired driving after crashes

A London teenager is facing drunk driving charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of two separate crashes.

The London Police Service said on Monday shortly after 11:50 p.m., police were searching for suspects following a hit-and-run crash in the area of Southdale Road and Bostwick Road, when they were called to another collision on Raleigh Boulevard in the Talbot Village subdivision. Officers arrived at the second crash to find that a light standard struck, but the vehicle was not at the scene.

The vehicle was eventually located nearby on Vallas Circle with significant front-end damage, however, witnesses told officers that two youths were seen running away from the vehicle heading west.

Officers used a K9 police service dog to search the area and were able to locate two youths.

A 17-year-old London boy is now charged with failing to stop at the scene of a collision, impaired operation of a vehicle, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents the release of the teen's name due to his age. He is scheduled to appear in court in London on December 14.

While there were no injuries as a result of either collision, the damage caused is estimated at around $14,000.

Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
