Gun seized, officer assaulted in Strathroy

A Strathroy man faces two dozen charges after a gun was seized following a "confrontation" with a police officer.

Strathroy-Caradoc police said an officer tried to stop what police called a suspicious vehicle around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the north end of Strathroy. The driver took off when police tried to pull the vehicle over.

The vehicle was found shortly after and police determined that the driver had breached a release condition. Police said there was a "confrontation" with the officer, but an arrest was made. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded pistol, drugs, and other weapons, according to police.

A 28-year-old man faces 24 charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
