Teens charged after man tied up, assaulted and robbed

Two teenagers are accused of assaulting and robbing a man they allegedly lured to a London parking lot through an online dating site.

The man went to the Commissioners Road East parking lot around 12:30 a.m. last Thursday to meet an individual he had been talking to online. But when he got there, two young men wearing masks and carrying guns got into his vehicle.

The man was then assaulted and had his hands bound, London police said. The two youths proceeded to demand the man's cell phone and other personal possessions, including the keys to his vehicle. They then took off from the area in the man's vehicle.

The victim, who reported the incident to police, suffered minor injuries in the assault.

Officers with the Hamilton Police Service found the man's vehicle and arrested two teens on Saturday.

Two 17-year-old boys, one from London and one from Oakville, are charged with armed robbery, using a firearm to commission of an indictable offence, wearing a disguise with intent, forcible confinement, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both of the accused are scheduled to appear in London court on October 19.

As a result of the attack, police are reminding Londoners meeting up with strangers they met online to always do so in a public place and to report anything suspicious.
