Two toddlers injured in ATV rollover crash

Police are investigating after two toddlers were injured in a serious ATV accident in Norfolk County.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Saturday shortly before 5:22 p.m., a 32-year-old was sitting on an ATV with a two-year-old child in their lap at a home on Highway 59 in South Walsingham, when the child managed to press the throttle causing the ATV to reverse at a high rate of speed.

The driver was unable to prevent the ATV from colliding with a four-year-old child who was playing in the driveway. The attempt to veer away from the toddler also caused the ATV to roll over.

The four-year-old was airlifted by an Ornge air ambulance to a Hamilton area hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The two-year-old suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The adult driver was not injured.

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
