Nearly a dozen Londoners were forced to leave their homes for several hours after a natural gas leak in a northwest subdivision.
The London Fire Department was called about the leak in the area of Applerock Avenue and Bridgehaven Drive on Wednesday at around 3:30 p.m.
"We arrived to find that a construction crew had severed a four-inch main of natural gas," said Platoon Chief Colin Shewell. "So, we immediately evacuated the area as a precaution."
A total of 14 homes were evacuated, which displaced nine people as fire crews monitored atmosphere levels in the homes adjacent to the gas line break. Fire officials said wind conditions were favourable for preventing the accumulation of gas.
Enbridge responded to the scene and was able to have the gas line repaired at around 7:30 p.m. Residents were allowed to return to their homes by 8 p.m.
