Police officers assaulted after woman found breaking windows

A London woman is facing charges after several windows were smashed at a local business and multiple police officers were assaulted.

The London Police Service said officers were called on Friday at around 9:50 a.m. after multiple windows were broken at a business on Wharncliffe Road South near Horton Street East, causing around $1,500 in damages.

When the officers arrived a woman took off running and armed herself with a fire extinguisher from a nearby home. However, following a short chase, officers were able to take the woman into custody outside a residence on Evergreen Avenue.

When the woman was placed in the back of the police cruiser, she began to kick and strike the rear window. To ensure the woman's safety, she was removed from the vehicle until a transport wagon could attend the scene.

During the wait, the woman repeatedly resisted officers by kicking and spitting on them. The woman also continued to yell and kick once placed in the transport wagon.

One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest, however, the suspect and the other officers were not injured.

As a result of the incident, a 33-year-old London woman is now charged with mischief under $5,000 and four counts of assaulting a peace officer. She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 9.

Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to call police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
