One new COVID-19 case in London, two in Elgin-Oxford

There was just a single new case of COVID-19 confirmed in London and Middlesex County on Wednesday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said only one additional person tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 680.

The number of resolved cases in the area increased by one to 592.

With no new deaths in the region since June 12, the death toll remains at 57.

Following days of surging case numbers in Elgin and Oxford, there are indications spread of COVID-19 may be slowing.

Southwestern Public Health, the region's health unit, reported only two new lab-confirmed cases on Wednesday. The decrease comes after 12 cases were recorded on Tuesday and eight on Monday. The total number of cases in the area now stands at 180 with 96 resolved and five deaths. That leaves 79 active cases between the two counties.

Provincially, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ontario was under 100 for a third straight day.

Public health officials reported 86 new cases over the past 24 hours. It is less than the 88 new infections reported on Monday and the 91 cases seen on Tuesday.

Of the province's 34 health units, 29 reported five or fewer cases, with 22 of them reporting no new cases at all. The bulk of the new cases were among those between the ages of 20 and 59.

The total number of cases in Ontario since the start of the pandemic is now 39,714.

There were also zero additional deaths since Tuesday. That leaves the death toll unchanged at 2,782.

"With 146 more resolved, we also continue to see a persistent decline in the number of active cases in the province," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.

The province's total number of resolved cases is 35,747.

Hospitalizations continue to decrease with 66 people in hospital. Of those, 30 are in the intensive care unit and 15 are using a ventilator to breathe.

The province conducted just over 17,000 COVID-19 tests since Tuesday.
