Victim sexually assaulted after being offered a ride home

Police in Simcoe are investigating a sexual assault that occurred after a victim was offered a ride home Monday morning.

The victim told Norfolk County Provincial Police they were sitting on the curb of Norfolk Street South around 10 a.m. when they were approached by a male driving an SUV. The male driver offered the victim a ride, and they accepted. The victim was taken to an address on South Drive and was sexually assaulted while inside the vehicle.

The victim was able to exit the car, and after they attended the Norfolk OPP police detachment to report the assault.

The suspect is described as a black male with a Jamaican accent, in his late 20s or early 30s, with a 'distinctive' thick, black beard that covers his cheeks. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark shirt and pyjama pants.

The vehicle in question is described as a gold-coloured SUV, with a beige leather interior, and large centre console in between the front seats. The SUV is said to be missing the rear passenger seat and appears to seat six to seven passengers.

Members of the Norfolk County OPP are asking for the public's assistance to gather any information that can help identify the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
