Police search for driver who ran down family of geese

Provincial police are investigating after a driver is alleged to have intentionally run over a family of geese in Simcoe.

The geese were walking across Norfolk Street North around 7:22 p.m. on Wednesday when a dark coloured van is said to have sped up to hit them.

After striking the birds, the driver stopped and got out of the vehicle to check for damage. The individual then got back into the van and drove away.

Two of the geese were killed, while four others were seriously hurt.

"Officers arrived on scene and had to humanely dispatch four geese due to the extent of their injuries," police said.

Anyone who has video of the incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1 - 800 - 222 - 8477 (TIPS).

Police are also urging the driver of the van to come forward.
