One new COVID-19 case in London, zero in Elgin and Oxford

A single new case of COVID-19 has been reported in London and Middlesex County.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said on Friday that, for the second day in a row, just one person has tested positive for the virus. The latest laboratory-confirmed case brings the area's total to 633.

Four more people previously diagnosed with the virus have since recovered, increasing the number of resolved cases to 560. That increase follows a large spike in recoveries due to an administrative data review Wednesday and Thursday that saw the number rise by 39.

It has been nearly a month since there has been a death related to COVID-19 in the region. The death toll remains at 57.

There are currently no outbreaks at London-Middlesex long-term care homes or retirement facilities.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit that oversees Elgin and Oxford counties, had no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday. It is the second straight day that region has had zero new cases. The number of infected people to recover held steady at 79.

There have been no new deaths between the two counties in a week. The death toll stands at five.

Provincial public health officials are reporting a drop in the daily number of newly confirmed cases. There were 116 more COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario on Friday. That comes after an increase of 170 on Thursday.

Every health unit across the province, except those in Toronto, Peel Region, York Region, and Windsor-Essex, reported five or fewer cases. Seventeen of the 34 health units saw zero new cases.

The province's total case count since the start of the pandemic is now 36,464.

The number of additional deaths related to the virus saw an increase with seven more deaths over the past 24 hours. There has been a total of 2,710 deaths in Ontario linked to the virus since the outbreak began.

There was also another uptick in the number of people who have recovered from the virus in Ontario.

"With 178 more resolved today, Ontario is reporting fewer active cases than seen at any point in April, pre-peak. Nearly 27,500 #COVID19 tests were processed as our positivity rate remains at all-time lows," tweeted Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott.

The total number of recoveries sits at 32,155 and just over 27,000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted since Thursday.
