Toronto cop charged in connection to murder of accused war criminal

An officer with the Toronto Police Service, who is the father of a suspect in the murder of an alleged Liberian warlord, has now been charged by police in London.

The London Police Service announced on Tuesday that 46-year-old Trevor P. Gregory of North York has been charged with breach of trust in connection with an investigation into the slaying of 44-year-old Bill Horrace during a home invasion on June 21.  The Toronto officer was arrested on Tuesday and released pending a court appearance in London on September 29.

"At this time, the London Police Service will not be releasing any further details specific to the charges against Trevor Gregory," London police said in a news release.

Trevor Gregory is an officer with the Toronto Police Service and father of Keiron Gregory, who is charged with second degree murder in connection with Horace's death. A warrant was issued for his arrest on June 25, however, he remains at large.

Horace was killed on June 21 after four men went to a home at 232 Pochard Lane around 4:40 a.m. and forced their way inside. There was an altercation that ended when one of the men shot Horace. The men then took off and a 911 call was made. Emergency crews rushed Horace to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

London police have previously confirmed that the murder victim, Horace, is the same man who was a member of the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), a rebel group that was active during the First Liberian Civil War between 1989 to 1996. Horace also acknowledged his ties to NPFL during an interview with Maclean’s back in 2009.

Horace and the men under his command were accused of “horrendous atrocities” during their time with NPFL. However, despite also being under investigation in Canada, none of the allegations against Horace have been proven in court.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
