No new COVID-19 cases in London

For the second day in a row, there have been no new cases of COVID-19 reported in London and Middlesex County.

Monday marked the first time since mid-March that the Middlesex London Health Unit has reported two consecutive days with no additional laboratory-confirmed cases or deaths related to the virus. That leaves the area's total number of cases since the start of the pandemic at 630, with 57 deaths.

Three more infected people have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of resolved cases in the London area to 515.

There are currently no outbreaks of COVID-19 at local long-term care homes or retirement facilities.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, there were no new cases or COVID-19 related deaths confirmed on Monday. Southwestern Public Health, the region's health unit, said the total number of cases remains at 85. Only one new case was reported in the two counties over the weekend. On Friday, Elgin and Oxford counties saw their first COVID-19 related death since April 22. The death toll stands at five.

The number of recoveries remains at 77.

Provincially, there was promising news from public health officials who confirmed there were zero additional COVID-19 related deaths in Ontario over the past 24 hours. This is the first time since March no new deaths related to the virus were reported.

The total number of Ontarians to die from the novel coronavirus remains at 2,689.

There was a slight increase in the number of newly confirmed cases across the province, with 154 reported. That is up from 138 cases on Sunday and 121 cases on Saturday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott took to Twitter to point out 18 of the province's 34 health units reported no new cases on Monday.

The bulk of the new cases reported since Sunday were in Toronto, where 59 people tested positive. Another 43 people were confirmed to have the virus in Peel Region.

The province has now recorded a total of 35,948 cases since January. Of those, 31,426 have been resolved.

A total of 17,303 tests were conducted across the province on Sunday, for a total of 1,544,417 since the start of the outbreak.
