Cottages trashed, teen found sleeping on couch

Three teenagers are facing charges after several Long Point cottages were ransacked and one of the suspects decided to allegedly take a nap amid the wreckage.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday shortly before 8 a.m., an owner of a cottage on Hastings Drive entered the home to find it had been severely damaged after someone broke in. One of the teenage suspects was allegedly found by the owner asleep on a couch when the owner entered, and then fled.

Officers were called to the scene and ultimately discovered that other cottages had been broken into and vandalized in the area and a total of three people were responsible.

As a result, officers arrested three teenagers at the scene without incident.

A 14-year-old from Brantford, a 15-year-old from Brantford, and a 14-year-old from Six Nations of the Grand River, are now charged with multiple counts of break and enter and mischief over $5,000.  The 15-year-old is additionally charged with failing to comply with a probation order and the other Brantford teen faces an additional charge of mischief under $5,000

All three youths, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are scheduled to appear in a Simcoe court at a later date.
