Single new case of COVID-19 confirmed in London-area

For a third straight day, London and Middlesex County have recorded only one new case of COVID-19.

On Friday, the Middlesex London Health Unit said there was only one additional person confirmed to have the virus over the past 24 hours. That brings the region's total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 613.

To date, there have been 57 deaths related to the virus in the area, with no new deaths reported since June 12.

Six more people previously diagnosed with COVID-19 have recovered, bringing the area's resolved case count up to 497.

A single facility-wide outbreak remains at Westmount Gardens.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, there have not been any new cases since Tuesday. The region's total number of cases is 83. There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths since April 22, leaving the death toll at four. There have been 77 resolved cases.

Public health officials in Ontario are reporting the province's lowest number of new cases since late March.

There were 111 new cases confirmed on Friday. The daily case count has not been this low since March 25.

"While very welcome news, we shouldn’t draw too many conclusions from one day of data. Rather, we’ll continue to keep a close eye on what is hopefully the continuation of our downward trend," Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet.

Tuesday was the only day this week the daily number of laboratory-confirmed cases rose above 200.

The total number of cases across the province since January is now 34,316.

Over the past 24 hours, there were three additional deaths to bring the province's death told from COVID-19 to 2,644.

Recoveries were up by 226, increasing the overall number of resolved cases to 29,754.

The number of tests being completed each day for the virus is at an all-time high, with 30,780 tests conducted on Thursday.

"Hospitalizations, ICU admissions and vented patients all also continue to decline," Elliott added.

Friday's numbers even prompted a positive message from Ontario Premier Doug Ford to Ontarians to continue to stay the course.

"We are making tremendous progress in beating #COVID19," tweeted Ford. "28 of 34 public health units are reporting five or less cases, and 19 are reporting no cases at all. Keep it up Ontario!"
