Six new cases of COVID-19 reported in London

The Middlesex London Health Unit has confirmed six new cases of COVID-19.

The half dozen cases were reported on Thursday and include one retirement home resident and one long-term care worker. There have now been 493 cases of COVID-19 recorded in the London-area since the outbreak began. For the fourth day in a row, there were no new deaths related to the virus locally. The area's death toll remains at 48.

The London Health Sciences Centre has 17 patients with the disease in its care, only one of whom is in intensive care.

Outbreaks of the virus continue at six local long-term care facilities - Country Terrace, Henley Place, Meadow Park Care Centre, Mount Hope Centre for Long-Term Care, Sisters of St. Joseph, and Waverley Mansion.

Public Health officials noted the number of resolved cases has risen to 350.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, Southwestern Public Health reported a single case on Thursday. The total number of cases in that region sits at 66, with four deaths. The total number of recoveries is 56.

Provincially, health officials confirmed the number of new cases reported in a single day was back over the 400 mark for the second time this week. There were 413 new cases confirmed over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 24,187. The number of single-day cases reported on Tuesday was 427, before falling back under 400 to 390 on Wednesday.

The number of deaths in Ontario is quickly nearing 2,000 with 31 more novel coronavirus related deaths reported Thursday. There have been a total of 1,993 deaths and 18,509 recoveries across the province since the start of the outbreak.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 sits at 984. Of those, 155 are in intensive care and 117 are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.

The number of outbreaks in long-term care homes in Ontario has climbed to 287 with three new outbreaks declared on Thursday.

There have been 4,178 health-care workers that have tested positive in Ontario for COVID-19.

A total of 10,506 tests for the virus were performed over the last 24 hours, 577,682 have been done since the outbreak began.
