Fanshawe deferring summer in-person classes

Fanshawe College has laid out how it plans to offer classes in the coming months as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

The college said all in-person classes that were scheduled for the summer semester are being deferred until the fall. Those classes were to begin at the end of June.

“Our commitment is to deliver classes in the safest learning environment possible,” said college President Peter Devlin. “We will continue to follow guidelines from public health and the government, with our guiding principle being the health and safety of our students, employees and our communities.”

According to a news release issued by the college on Tuesday, students that were enrolled in the 2019/2020 winter semester and still need to complete face-to-face work in order to complete their courses will be able to return to classrooms, labs, and work placements beginning July 20 for a period of two weeks.

Students who began the summer semester on May 5 will complete their courses online, with exams finishing on August 21.

When the fall semester begins, the college plans to offer a "blended delivery of programs." Half of the full-time programs will be offered online, while the others will be a mix of online learning and face-to-face instructions. The fall semester will run from September 21 until December 19, with no exam week scheduled.

“Physical distancing measures and keeping our employees and students safe are at the core of our planning,” said Devlin. “We are building scenarios that would allow us to bring students onto campus when it is required while continuing to provide course delivery online where possible.”
