School board working with counties, tech company to improve student WiFi

London-area students struggling to complete their online school work due to spotty internet connections are getting a signal boost.

The Thames Valley District school board has partnered with Middlesex, Elgin, and Oxford counties and technology firm Cisco Canada to enhance WiFi signals outside of select schools and municipal buildings. The work to address weak and unreliable wireless signals, particularly in rural areas, comes as kids switch from learning in the classroom to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school board previously distributed more than 600 wireless-enabled devices to families without at home internet. By enhancing WiFi access more students will be able to continue their studies.

The internet connection is being offered free of charge without a password to members of the community.
