Kids found safe after woman steals vehicle with them inside

London police are searching for a woman who stole a vehicle with two children inside.

The children's mother had parked the SUV in the driveway of a home on Wortley Road around 5 p.m. on Monday. She left the motor running, but had taken the key fob with her as she walked up to the house to speak to a family member, police said.

That is when an unknown woman hopped into the driver's seat of the SUV and drove away with the two kids.

Police found the vehicle abandoned on Emery Street minutes later. Both children were still inside and were unharmed.

A search of the area did not turn up the female suspect.

She is described as Caucasian, between 30 to 40 years old, with a thin build, long dark hair in a ponytail with a pink elastic, dark blue jeans, dark coat, and black sunglasses.

Police are now reminding drivers that vehicles with keyless ignition systems can still travel a significant distance without the key fob nearby once the engine is started.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
