Free bus rides continue

The London Transit Commission (LTC) has extended its offer of free bus rides, but is urging riders not to take the bus on frivolous trips.

The LTC quit collecting fares last month and had riders board through the rear door as a way of protecting its drivers from COVID-19. The practice was set to end on Sunday. However, it has now been extended until April 30.

Passengers with accessibility needs are still permitted to board and exit buses using the front door.

Anyone who had purchased a monthly bus pass for April will receive a refund. Details on how to obtain that refund will be posted on the LTC's website in the coming days, transit officials said.

Despite the month-long offer of free rides, transit officials are asking Londoners not to use the bus as a way to beat isolation boredom.

"We want to take this opportunity to remind Londoners to limit your trips on public transit to those that are essential only and if you are experiencing any symptoms, we ask that you stay home," said a statement from transit officials.

Essential trips would include those to the grocery store, pharmacy, or work.

All high-touch surfaces and grab points on the city buses are disinfected nightly, according to transit officials.
