Fanshawe College postpones spring convocation

Fanshawe College is the latest post secondary institution to postpone its spring convocation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The college announced on Monday it is moving the ceremonies to the fall. They were originally scheduled to take place from June 9 to 11.

The decision was made to postpone the convocation after school officials consulted with public health authorities.

"We know this will be a disappointment to our graduating students,” Michele Beaudoin, vice president of student services, said in a statement. "They have persevered through a very difficult time to complete their studies under extraordinary circumstances and we are extremely proud of their accomplishments."

Graduating students had already been forced to complete their studies online after in-person classes were cancelled earlier this month to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Western University announced late last week it was postponing its spring convocation due to the global outbreak. Its spring convocation ceremonies had been scheduled to be held between May 22 and June 19. University President Alan Shepard stated the those affected by the cancellation would be invited to participate in a future convocation after the threat of the pandemic has subsided.
