UPDATE: Two new COVID-19 cases and 1 death reported in London-Middlesex

The first COVID-19 related death has been reported in London-Middlesex County.

A man in his 70s fell ill after he returned from a trip to Portugal in early March. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) was notified of his passing on Saturday morning.

The Health Unit had been following up with the man's care shortly after he was admitted to the London Health Sciences Centre.

The total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the London area has reached 25.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported two new cases on Saturday. Both are men, one in his 50s and the other in his 60s. Information regarding whether the men are in hospital or are recovering at home has not been released by health officials. How they acquired the virus is listed as "pending" on the health unit's website.

The London Health Sciences Centre reported on Saturday that there are three patients with COVID-19 at the University Campus. Two are in the intensive care unit, while one is in another inpatient unit.

At the Victoria Campus, there are two patients in critical care and one in another inpatient unit.

News of the new cases in the London area came on the same day that provincial health officials announced 151 new cases across Ontario, bringing the total number of active cases to 1,118.
