Conservation authority delays start of camping and boating season

The camping and boating season at conservation areas in London, St. Marys, and Woodstock won't go ahead as scheduled because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) announced on Friday that it is delaying the start of the camping and boating season indefinitely at the Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock conservation areas. Despite that, the areas do remain open for walking and nature viewing, the conservation authority said.

All playgrounds are closed and UTRCA buildings have been shut to the public to help better protect staff from the coronavirus.

People visiting the conservation areas are reminded to practice social distancing on trails and in parking areas, visit only during daylight hours, park only in designated parking lots, and to take nothing but photos. Conservation authority staff availability is very limited for the time being.

The camping and boating season were originally scheduled to open on May 1. A new opening date will be announced as soon as possible, the conservation authority said.
