UPDATE: London courthouse closed after worker tests positive for COVID-19

The London courthouse will remain closed again on Wednesday after a Crown attorney tested positive for COVID-19.

According to an internal memo obtained by Blackburn News, the building at 80 Dundas St. is undergoing "thorough" cleaning to help reduce any potential risk of exposure to the virus.

"We are in ongoing discussions with the [Middlesex] London Public Health Unit to ensure we are following best practices," the memo sent by Director of Operations Samantha Poisson to all courthouse staff and stakeholders states.

The courthouse was closed all day Tuesday and was originally slated to reopen Wednesday, however, sources at the courthouse have confirmed that is no longer the case.

Courthouse officials learned just after 9 p.m. on Monday that an employee had tested positive for the virus.

"Before being tested, the individual was at work between March 9 and March 10 and has not since returned to the building. They will not be returning to the building until fully recovered and medically cleared to do so," according to the memo.

Blackburn News has since confirmed that the employee is a Crown attorney who is now at home in self-isolation. As a precaution, all other employees of the Crown's office have been asked to self-isolate.

Other courthouse employees were told to contact their manager about work arrangements for the day. However, all London lawyers have been barred from attending courtrooms in St. Thomas.
