Ontario confirms four new cases of COVID-19

Health officials have confirmed four new cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which brings the total number of confirmed cases in Ontario to 15.

Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams announced the latest confirmed cases on Sunday.

A Toronto man in his 50's -- who is temporarily living in Vaughan -- developed symptoms after arriving back in Canada. He is the brother of a previously reported patient who recently traveled to Iran. The man in his 50's was tested at Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill on February 28. He now remains in self-isolation.

The spouse of York Region's first Iran travel-related case announced on Saturday has also tested positive for the illness. The man in his 40's traveled with his wife and toddler. He was also tested at Mackenzie Health Hospital on February 28. He was in self-isolation before he developed symptoms and has had no community exposure.

At North York General Hospital, a man in his 60's went to the emergency department for coughing symptoms on February 28. He recently returned from Iran on February 23. He was assessed and sent home the same day, where he will remain in self-isolation.

The fourth recent patient to test positive for COVID-19 is a woman in her 70's from Newmarket. She recently traveled to Egypt with a previously reported patient in Toronto. She was tested for the illness at Southlake Regional Health Centre on Saturday and is now in self-isolation.

The first three cases announced in Ontario have been resolved as each patient tested negative for COVID-19 in two consecutive tests, taken at least 24 hours apart.

Public health officials said COVID-19 is not circulating locally.
