UPDATE: London man wanted for attempted murder arrested

A 36-year-old London man accused of repeatedly stabbing a woman near a St. Marys elementary school has been arrested.

Stratford police were called to Little Falls Public School at 25 Lindsay Atkinson Dr. shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday after a severely injured woman appeared on the property. An investigation determined that, prior to seeking help from school officials, the woman had been involved in an altercation with a man in a nearby parking lot. The dispute escalated and the woman was stabbed several times before she was able to get away.

The woman was taken to St Marys General Hospital and was later transferred to London’s Victoria Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown. Police remained on scene Wednesday afternoon to collect further evidence. Despite the seriousness of this incident, police said they believe this was an isolated dispute and are reassuring the public there is no concern for public safety.

Police announced Wednesday afternoon that officers had arrested Derek Boyd, 36, of London on a charge of attempted murder.
