Trucker charged in crash that killed four-year-old

A truck driver from Tecumseh is facing charges in connection with a collision that claimed the life of a four-year-old girl.

Mariia Bundur of Appin died of injuries she suffered in the collision, which happened at the intersection of Glendon Drive and Melbourne Road in Southwest Middlesex. The kindergarten student at Ekcoe Central Public School was in one of two vehicles that collided with a transport truck on November 18, 2019.

Two other people who were in the same vehicle as Bunder suffered serious injuries.

On Tuesday, the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police announced that the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Evan Beedawia of Tecumseh, is charged with criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and entering inaccurate or false information in a daily log.

He was to appear for a bail hearing Tuesday.

In the wake of the crash, an online petition was launched by local resident James Greenwood, aimed at installing a roundabout at the intersection. Nearly 3,000 people added their online signatures to the petition.
