Alleged impaired driver rear-ends vehicle twice

A 31-year-old Sparta man is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle was rear-ended not once, but twice while at a stop sign.

The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Axford Parkway and Fairview Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday when another vehicle hit it from behind. Witnesses told St. Thomas police the vehicle then reversed slightly before pulling forward and crashing into the back of the stopped vehicle a second time.

No one was hurt in the collision.

The driver was taken into custody without incident after failing a sobriety test at the scene, police said.

The 31-year-old Sparta man is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
