Knights double Spitfires 6-3 to mark milestone for head coach

Dale Hunter has earned his 800th win as an OHL coach with the London Knights' 6-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires on Thursday.

Hunter Skinner kicked things off for the Knights with a goal 7:33 into the first period, but Curtis Douglas put Windsor on the board at the 13:37 mark to tie the game. The Knights retook the lead with Antonio Stranges scoring late in the first frame and Jason Willms scoring just over five minutes into the second.

Will Cuylle added the Spitfires' second goal of the night 15:01 into the second, but Luke Evangelista and Nathan Dunkley both scored to give London a 5-2 lead heading into the final period.

The Knights increased their lead to 6-2 after Jonathan Gruden scored just over halfway through the third. Daniel D'Amico added another goal for Windsor in the final two minutes of the game, but the Spitfires weren't able to catch up to the Knights' three-goal advantage.

With the victory, Hunter has become only the third OHL coach to reach 800 wins in OHL history. Brian Kilrea and the late Bert Templeton are the other two coaches to reach the milestone.

The Knights return home on Friday to face off against the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
