Catholic teachers holding one-day strike Tuesday

Catholic elementary and secondary schools across Ontario will remain closed on Tuesday as teachers walk the picket line.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association said its members will not report to work. The one-day strike is the latest job action by the union which to this point has only engaged in a work-to-rule campaign.

“It has become clear that this government will only do the right thing when they are under pressure from Ontarians,” OECTA President Liz Stuart said ahead of the one-day strike. “They have left us little choice but to take the next legal step in the bargaining process.”

All Catholic elementary and secondary schools and alternative education programs, including those within the London District Catholic School Board will be closed all day Tuesday.

They will reopen on Wednesday.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario is also continuing its rotating one-day strikes.  Tuesday's strikes have closed the Grand Erie District School Board, the Trillium Lakelands board, the Renfrew County District School Board and the Superior-Greenstone District School Board.

Thames Valley District School board elementary schools will be hit by the rotating one-day strikes on Wednesday.
