London man charged after swords, guns found in storage unit

The discovery of a loaded gun and several swords in a storage unit has led to additional charges being laid against a London man who was already facing drug-and-theft-related charges.

The 33-year-old man was picked up by St. Thomas police last week after officers spotted a stolen vehicle pulling into the parking lot of a Talbot Street restaurant. Officers arrested the driver of the vehicle after he parked and began to walk away.

More than $5,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine and hydromorphone pills were allegedly found in the vehicle and on the driver. The search also turned up $1,655 cash.

The investigation then led officers to a storage unit in London where a .25 calibre loaded handgun, a loaded zip gun, ammunition, a large number of swords, and stolen property was found.

A 33-year-old London man originally charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property, and operating a vehicle without a licence, is now also charged with an additional seven offences. Those include unlawful possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
