Express edge Lightning 85-84

The Windsor Express narrowly defeated the London Lightning 85-84 at their home-opener at the WFCU on Saturday.

The Express led the Lightning 22-17 at the end of the first quarter. The Lightning managed to take over with a score of 34-29 with 7:44 left in the second quarter and maintained a 10 point lead heading into halftime with a score of 52-42. The third quarter saw both teams close to a tie with the Lightning leading 64-63. With just seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, the teams were at a 70-70 tie and the Lightning were leading with seconds left in the game, but the Express managed to take the lead ending the game at 85-84.

Derrick Nix scored 20 points for the Express and six rebounds, while Sam Muldrow scored 13 points and 10 rebounds. Shaquille Keith added 13 points and three rebounds.

Maurice Bolden led scoring for the Lightning with 19 points and 5 rebounds, while Xavier Moon put up 15 points and seven rebounds. AJ Gaines added another 14 points and four rebounds.

The Express will take on the Lightning on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Lightning will take on the Sudbury Five on Monday at 7 p.m.
