SIU investigating London man's injury during arrest

The province's police watchdog is investigating after a 34-year-old man was hurt during an arrest by London police.

Officers looking for a wanted man went to an apartment building on Simcoe Street near Clarence Street around 2 p.m. on Thursday. Police had information the man was inside one of the units in the building. After getting a warrant, officers went inside around 1:50 a.m. on Friday.

During the arrest, the man was injured, but the extent of his injuries has not been released. The unidentified man was taken to hospital for treatment. He is now charged with one count of resisting arrest, in addition to the offences in the outstanding warrants.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified about the man's injuries and has invoked its mandate. It is not yet known how many investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police officers that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
