Petition launched for roundabout at fatal crash intersection

A petition has been launched to put a roundabout at an intersection southwest of London where a four-year-old girl was killed in a three vehicle collision this week.

The online petition for a roundabout at the intersection of Glendon Drive and Melbourne Road in Southwest Middlesex Township was launched by James Greenwood in the wake of the death of Mariia Bundur. The little girl from Appin died after the vehicle she was in collided with another vehicle and a transport truck on Monday night.

Two other people who were in the same vehicle as Bundur suffered serious injuries.

"In order to slow down the traffic at this intersection, we propose a roundabout be put in the intersection of Glendon Rd and Melbourne Rd, thereby slowing the traffic down and in the case of an accident the chances of the accident being fatal is lesser," Greenwood wrote in a preamble to the online petition.

The petition seeks 2,500 signatures in hopes of convincing officials to build a roundabout at the intersection. Greenwood says it will be sent to the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex, Middlesex County, and the Lambton Kent Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton.

"May this roundabout also be a memorial for all those who have lost their lives and a thank you to the many first responders that have been there to rescue those who have been a victim of the intersection of Glendon Rd and Melbourne Rd," Greenwood wrote.

The petition, which had over 1,500 virtual signatures as of Wednesday afternoon, can be found here.
