A total of 20 neighbourhood enhancement projects across London have been selected by voters to receive thousands of dollars in city funding.
The winners of the 2019 Neighbourhood Decision Making (NDM) program were announced on Wednesday. According to a news release from the City of London, more than 10,300 Londoners cast ballots to decide which projects would share in a total of $250,000 in funding.
“It’s amazing that residents all over London can be a part of our process to decide where funding goes,” said Mayor Ed Holder. “We’ve seen Londoners of all ages get creative with the Neighbourhood Decision Making program, and we’re really looking forward to see these winning projects come to life.”
The program saw the city divided into five geographic areas, with each getting $50,000. Residents submitted ideas for their neighbourhoods between August 19 and September 24. A total of 216 ideas were submitted this year. A feasibility review by city staff led to 104 project ideas making it onto the ballot.
“I was so excited when I saw the results of this year’s vote day” says Cheryl Smith, Managing Director of Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services. “The growth in voter turnout over the last 3 years is a clear sign that Londoners want to be involved in making decisions for their neighbourhoods.”
