The arrest of an erratic driver in Elgin County has led to the recovery of two stolen guns.
The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police said that officers saw a vehicle being driven erratically on Talbot Line near Centennial Road around 1 p.m. on Saturday. According to police, officers then saw the vehicle being driven through a field. They followed the tracks and saw the driver running near a wooded lot.
The area was contained with the help of St. Thomas police and Middlesex OPP. The OPP's canine unit was called in and a suspect was arrested.
Officers recovered a stolen rifle and a stolen shotgun.
A 35-year-old Malahide Township man is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm obtained by crime, two counts of driving while prohibited, as well as one count each of dangerous driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
