Compliments sweet kale recalled over Listeria concerns

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people not to eat Sobeys Compliments brand Sweet Kale Blend due to possible Listeria contamination.

The agency issued a recall Wednesday for the 255 gram salads with a UPC code of 0 68820 13305 6 and best before dates of October 28, October 31, November 1, November 2, and November 3. The affected product was sold in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan.

Anyone who has this product is advised to throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The illness can cause death in severe cases.

To date, no one has reported getting sick from eating the recalled salad.
