Police have arrested one man and are looking for another after a debt collection in St. Thomas ended with a man being punched and choked.

According to St. Thomas police, two men went to a Margaret Street home around 8 p.m. on September 24 looking for payment for an outstanding debt. When the male resident of the home refused to pay, one of the men pulled out a baseball bat and began to hit the resident’s vehicle with it.

The confrontation continued to escalate with the men using their pickup truck to hit the victim’s vehicle. The men took off after choking and punching the victim, who then called police.

A 46-year-old St. Thomas man turned himself into police around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He is charged with assault and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

A warrant has been issued for an unidentified 52-year-old man for assault and mischief under $5,000 in relation to the incident.
