UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended

Despite a severe thunderstorm watch being canceled, a large part of southwestern Ontario is still in for a rainy evening.

On Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada issued the severe thunderstorm watch for London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, Elgin County, Sarnia-Lambton and Norfolk County. The watch was canceled around 7 p.m. however, a special weather advisory has now been issued in its place.

The advisory forecasts local heavy rainfall in scattered thunderstorms that are expected to continue into Tuesday night. The weather agency also says conditions could get very windy.

"Most areas have already received 15 to 30 mm of rain this afternoon from thunderstorms. Showers and scattered thunderstorms will continue to move eastward across the region this evening and overnight. This could produce an additional 20 to 30 mm of rain, bringing total rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm locally. Isolated wind gusts to 80 km/h are possible." Environment Canada stated on its website.

More wet weather and a chilly high of 12 C is forecast for the London-region Wednesday.
