A St. Thomas woman had to get three staples in her head after she was assaulted in a downtown park.
St. Thomas police were called to the Canron parkette at Talbot and First streets around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday about a man and woman fighting. When officers arrived they found a 49-year-old woman bleeding from a non-life threatening head injury. She was taken to hospital where she has since been treated and released.
Police determined the woman had been assaulted with a pad lock attached to a bike chain as she turned to leave during an argument with another individual.
A 64-year-old St. Thomas man, who is known to police, was arrested without incident. He is charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, causing a disturbance, and mischief.
The man and woman were known to each other, police said.
