Ornge no longer landing at University Hospital

Ornge Air Ambulance has suspended service to London's University Hospital due to safety concerns with the landing space.

The non-profit medical air transportation agency made the decision after receiving internal aviation safety concerns about obstacle clearance near the helipad and departure routes.

"Ornge takes such concerns seriously and made this decision in the interest of patient and crew safety," Ornge said in a statement. "We strive to carry out timely patient transport services while maintaining the highest standards of safety and ensuring compliance with all aviation regulations."

The London Health Sciences Centre was notified of the change earlier this month. Ornge is continuing to gather information about the safety issue and intends to meet with hospital officials soon to discuss next steps.

In the meantime, patients requiring helicopter transport will be flown to the London International Airport, then taken by land ambulance the rest of the way to University Hospital.
