London to host provincial country music awards

London has been tapped to host another awards show.

The Country Music Association of Ontario announced Thursday that London has been selected to host the 2020 CMAOntario Festival and Awards. The three-day event kicks off on May 29 and culminates with the 8th annual CMAOntario Awards at Centennial Hall on May 31.

“We are fast gaining a reputation as Canada’s ‘Music City’ and for good reason,” Mayor Ed Holder said in a statement. “From intimate performances at Aeolian Hall to the main stage at London Music Hall or the award-winning Budweiser Gardens, we know how to party. When London plays host, the entire city rolls out the welcome mat, and the 2020 CMAOntario Awards will be no different.”

This is London's third time hosting the annual celebration of Ontario talent. The CMAOntario Festival and Awards were previously held in the city in 2017 and 2018. They come one year after London played host to the Juno Awards.

"London has been a terrific host in the past, and we’re thrilled to return to Music City next year,” said CMAOntario President Steve Kassay.

Festivities leading up to the awards show will include up-close interactive performances by many of Ontario's top country music stars. A list of performers, festival details, and ticket information is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

The 2019 CMAOntario Festival and Awards were held in Ottawa in June.
