SIU investigating man's injury during arrest

The province's police watchdog is investigating after a 30-year-old London man accused of assault was injured during his arrest.

Two London police officers went to a home on Huron Street in relation to an assault investigation shortly before 7 p.m. last Friday. A man at the location became "combative" with the officers and was arrested, police said.

The man was taken to police headquarters on Dundas Street where it was discovered he had suffered an injury during his scuffle with police. He was then taken to hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury and has since been released.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has since been notified about the injury and is probing the incident. The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

No officers were hurt during the arrest.

A 30-year-old London man has been charged with assault and mischief under $5,000.
