Father in custody after Amber Alert

A two-year-old Brantford girl, who was the subject of an early morning Amber Alert Thursday, is back with her mother while her father and three others are in police custody.

The alert was issued for the tot around 3 a.m., roughly three hours after she was snatched from her Bissett Avenue home.

According to Brantford police, an unknown number of people knocked on the front door of the home shortly after midnight. When the child's mother answered, the estranged father allegedly broke in through a rear door. The mother and another resident were then assaulted and threatened before the father grabbed the girl and took off in a vehicle with three other people.

Injuries from the assault were described as minor.

Brantford police were able to make contact with the father, but he refused to disclose his location or return the child. The investigation that followed led police to Hamilton. The suspect vehicle with three people inside was located in the city around 2 a.m.

Roughly an hour later, police located the father at an Upper Ottawa Street home. The man turned himself in around 4 a.m. after an hour of talks with police. The child was located safely at the time.

The investigation into this incident is continuing, Brantford police said. So far, no charges have been laid.
