Roxodus cancelled due to wet conditions

A week before thousands of rock fans were to descend upon Roxodus, the four-day outdoor music festival has been cancelled.

Organizers of the inaugural event at the Edenvale Airport in Clearview Township, west of Barrie, posted the cancellation notice to the Roxodus Facebook and Twitter pages Wednesday morning.

"During the past couple of months, our venue at Edenvale Airport has battled tremendous rainy weather that has impacted our ability to produce the festival. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Roxodus Music Festival this year," the social media post states.

It goes on to say the Roxodus team "worked tirelessly" and unsuccessfully to try to find a solution to deal with the wet conditions that saturated the grounds to the point no staging could be set up.

"Our dream of producing a ‘once in a lifetime experience’ has been put on hold as we take the much-needed time to nurture our venue into a premier landmark in Ontario," organizers said, before thanking the musicians who were scheduled to play sponsors, and neighbours for their support.

The music festival was to kick off July 11, with Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Peter Frampton and Blondie all slated to perform. More than 40,000 people were expected to attend the event.

Ticket refund information is expected to be released in the coming days.
