Safety blitz pulls eight trucks from the road

Provincial police pulled eight commercial vehicles off the road due to safety violations during a one-day enforcement blitz in Middlesex Centre.

OPP from Middlesex and Brant counties, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of Finance conducted the traffic safety enforcement initiative Wednesday. A total of 17 commercial vehicles were stopped, with inspections resulting in eight being taken out of service. Another 15 fuel inspections were conducted by Ministry of Finance representatives.

The blitz also saw 26 Highway Traffic Act offences issued.

The initiative aims to increase public safety, improve commercial vehicle safety, and reduce the number of potential incidents involving commercial vehicles, police said.

Commercial vehicles are specifically inspected to ensure they meet equipment safety standards and operators and owners qualifications.
